As a new PERS member, or are returning to PERS-covered employment after a minimum 24 month break in service AND have refunded your contributions, you will have approximately 12 months to choose a retirement plan. You must choose either:
The Defined Benefit Retirement Plan (DBRP) or The Defined Contribution Retirement Plan (DCRP)
Please read the information for each plan carefully. We cannot recommend one retirement plan over the other. This extremely important decision must be made by you!

The PERS New Employee Plan Election class is designed to help you better understand the two MPERA administered plans before making your retirement plan choice. Online classes are held frequently and are offered free of charge.
